The Delta State Police Command has arrested a popular content creator, Ifeanyi Ogbonna, widely known as “Odogwu of Asaba,” over allegations that he raped a 20-year-old woman, Favour Agbro, whose subsequent death is now the subject of an ongoing police investigation.
According to a statement on Wednesday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the arrest followed a petition alleging that the deceased travelled to Asaba on June 1, 2026, after being invited by the suspect, who had reportedly promised to train her in content creation through a programme advertised on his social media platform.
Police said that upon arriving in Asaba, the suspect allegedly took the young woman to a hotel, where he allegedly raped her and subjected her to physical assault.
The Command stated that the victim later returned home visibly traumatised and narrated the alleged incident to her parents.
It further disclosed that she subsequently recorded a video detailing her ordeal and the emotional distress she experienced after the alleged assault.
Police said the young woman later died after ingesting a toxic substance despite efforts to save her.
Following the petition, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, directed the Area Command in Effurun to launch an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the allegations.
Acting on the directive, operatives arrested Ogbonna and commenced preliminary investigations.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly made what police described as “useful statements,” while detectives continue investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the allegations.
Assuring the deceased’s family and the public that a diligent investigation would be conducted, the Commissioner of Police stated that the Command would leave no aspect of the case unexplored.
“Upon receipt of the petition, I directed the Area Command, Effurun, to carry out an immediate and thorough investigation into the allegations,” CP Oyeniyi said.
He added that the Command remains committed to ensuring that the investigation is conducted professionally and that “appropriate legal action is taken in accordance with the law.”
The police urged members of the public to remain calm and allow investigators to conclude their work, stressing that the case remains under active investigation.
