Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has felicitated Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the government and people of the state, and the Urhobo people on the 35th anniversary of the creation of Delta State.

Dafinone described the anniversary as a significant milestone in the state’s journey, saying it offered an opportunity for Deltans to reflect on their collective achievements while renewing their commitment to peace, unity and sustainable development.

In a goodwill message marking the anniversary, the senator expressed gratitude for the journey Delta State had undertaken over the past 35 years and called on residents to strengthen the bonds that unite the state’s diverse ethnic and cultural groups.

He urged Deltans to “continue to embrace one another in love, mutual respect and understanding, irrespective of ethnic, cultural or political differences.”

According to him, the state’s diversity should be regarded as an asset capable of driving development rather than a source of division.

“Our diversity should remain a source of strength, not division,” Dafinone said, stressing that recognising and respecting the contributions of the various ethnic groups and communities would help build “a more united, peaceful and prosperous Delta State.”

The senator described Delta as “one big heart and one big family,” arguing that the coming together of the state’s people was an opportunity that should be protected and strengthened.

“Providence did not make a mistake by bringing us together as a people,” he said, urging Deltans to continue working together, supporting one another and promoting healthy competition in ideas, enterprise and development.

Dafinone further called on political, ethnic and community leaders to place the collective interest of Delta State above sectional considerations, saying sustained cooperation was essential to achieving lasting development.

He also commended Governor Oborevwori for his leadership and urged Deltans to support efforts aimed at advancing the state’s peace, unity and prosperity.

“On this 35th anniversary, I commend Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his leadership and urge all Deltans to remain united in the pursuit of a greater Delta,” he said.

Dafinone wished Delta State many more years of growth, prosperity and enduring unity, with a renewed commitment to building a better future for present and future generations.
