Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, has presented a comprehensive account of his administration’s achievements, highlighting major investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, electricity, environmental sanitation and staff welfare over the past two years.
Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday at the council secretariat to commemorate his second anniversary in office, Egbo said his administration had remained committed to delivering sustainable development despite financial constraints confronting local governments.
“Despite the numerous challenges confronting local governments across the country, our administration has remained focused, resilient and committed to delivering sustainable development that directly impacts the lives of our people,” he said.
Among the landmark projects listed were the near-completed ultra-modern council secretariat, a new secretariat gate complex, rehabilitation and furnishing of the legislative assembly complex, construction of multi-storey market stalls, completion of a dual-court complex, and rehabilitation of the Post Office Road with reinforced concrete pavement and drainage facilities.
In the health sector, Egbo announced the completion and operationalisation of the Ughelli North Tobore Oborevwori Cottage Hospital, equipped with modern medical facilities, while residential quarters for medical personnel are nearing completion.
The council also procured and installed three electricity transformers in strategic communities, restored power to the council secretariat, and deployed hybrid solar energy systems with solar streetlights to improve public lighting.
Education equally received attention through the distribution of more than 300 school desks, uniforms, textbooks and exercise books to public primary schools, alongside collaboration with the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board on classroom rehabilitation and teacher development.
Egbo further disclosed that the administration cleared outstanding obligations owed to members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), modernised key council offices, and procured official vehicles for principal officers to improve service delivery.
Looking ahead, he pledged to consolidate the administration’s achievements through greater investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture, youth and women empowerment, environmental protection and economic development.
“We shall continue to run an administration founded on transparency, accountability, inclusiveness and prudent management of public resources. Together, we shall continue to build a more peaceful, united, prosperous and progressive Ughelli North,” Egbo stated.
