Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to equitable development across the state, urging residents of Ughelli South Local Government Area to sustain their support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor gave the charge during the inauguration of a newly constructed National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) lodge built by the Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ekemejero Ohwovoriole (SAN), at Agbon-Olomu in Ughelli South Local Government Area.
Represented at the event by the Delta State Chairman of the APC, Chief Solomon Areyinka, Governor Oborevwori described the project as a significant contribution to his administration’s MORE Agenda, particularly in the areas of education, youth development and community advancement.
He commended Ohwovoriole for complementing government efforts through strategic investments that would improve learning outcomes and enhance the welfare of residents.
“Our administration remains committed to ensuring that every part of Delta State benefits from meaningful development. Initiatives such as this demonstrate the impact of collaboration between government officials and their communities in advancing education and human capital development,” the governor said.
The newly inaugurated NYSC lodge comprises four fully furnished apartments, including a three-bedroom apartment, a one-bedroom apartment and two self-contained bedsitters.
The facility is equipped with ensuite conveniences, household appliances, cooking equipment and a solar-powered electricity system to provide uninterrupted electricity for corps members.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ohwovoriole said the project was conceived to support Governor Oborevwori’s development agenda by attracting qualified graduate teachers, especially those in science-related disciplines, to schools in the community.
According to him, three corps members studying Engineering, Computer Science and Statistics have already resumed duty in the area, while the management of the NYSC has assured the community that additional corps members would soon be deployed.
He added that community leaders had pledged to guarantee the safety, welfare and conducive living conditions of the corps members throughout their service year.
“The future of every society depends largely on the quality of education available to its children. This lodge is intended to attract qualified corps members who will strengthen science education and inspire innovation among our young people,” Ohwovoriole said.
In another major intervention, the Attorney-General announced the adoption of all the approximately 120 pupils currently enrolled at Otorere Primary School, Agbon-Olomu, with a commitment to sponsor their education from primary school through university.
He explained that the scholarship programme would cover tuition, school uniforms, school bags, examination fees and other educational needs, provided the beneficiaries remained committed to their studies.
Ohwovoriole also disclosed plans to construct two additional NYSC lodges in Wards Two and Three of the state constituency, expressing optimism that both projects would be completed and inaugurated next year.
As part of an empowerment programme, he announced that the bank details of 130 beneficiaries had been processed and assured that each would receive a ₦100,000 grant directly into their accounts before the close of business on the day of the event.
“Our objective is to invest in people, create opportunities for young persons and build communities where education becomes a catalyst for sustainable development,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the corps members, Mr. Adeboye-Ayomide Joshua expressed appreciation for the accommodation provided, describing it as a major motivation for effective service in the community.
Similarly, the Head Boy of Otorere Primary School, Master Blessing Akpoidevo Oghenekaro, thanked Ohwovoriole for the scholarship initiative, saying it had renewed hope for many children and their families.
For residents of Agbon-Olomu, the interventions represent more than physical infrastructure and financial support.
They are widely seen as long-term investments in education, youth empowerment and sustainable community development that could positively shape the future of generations to come.
