The Ethiope West Youth Political Movement has honoured the Chairman of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Chief Barr. John Obukohwo Nani, with an Award of Excellence and formally decorated him as Patron of the group.
The youth group made the presentation during a courtesy visit to Nani, describing his leadership and service to Delta State, Ethiope West Local Government Area and Idjerhe Kingdom as worthy of recognition.
The visit was also aimed at strengthening collaboration between the youth movement and political leaders ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the group expressing its determination to mobilise youths across Ethiope West for the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking during the visit, the Secretary of the movement, Comrade Prince Ejairu, introduced members of the executive, including the Director-General, Comrade Ogheneochuko Godstime Oghenekparobo; Coordinator, Hon. Evangelist Godspower Ejaita Dogi; and Deputy Coordinator, Comrade Blessing Adogbeji.
The Coordinator, Dogi, said the movement was established to unite youths across Ethiope West and create a platform through which they could participate actively in political activities and grassroots mobilisation.
He explained that the group would engage young people across the communities, promote political participation and work with party stakeholders towards the electoral success of APC candidates.
In a similar vein, the Director-General, Oghenekparobo, said the movement intended to work closely with APC leaders and other stakeholders to build a strong grassroots structure ahead of the 2027 elections.
He stressed that the group was committed to ensuring that youths were not merely spectators in the political process but active participants in party mobilisation and electoral activities.
Responding, Nani commended the youths for taking the initiative to organise themselves and encouraged them to extend their mobilisation efforts beyond political meetings to the grassroots.
The DESOPADEC chairman urged the group to engage members of the public constructively and patiently persuade those who were yet to support the party.
Nani said the ability to convince people who were initially unwilling to work for the party was an important quality of a committed party member.
“Your ability to convince people who do not want to work for the party makes you indeed a good party man.”
He further urged the youths to remain peaceful, disciplined and focused in their political activities, stressing that sustained grassroots engagement would be critical to achieving electoral success.
The highlight of the visit was the formal decoration of Nani as Patron of the Ethiope West Youth Political Movement.
He was also presented with an Award of Excellence in recognition of what the group described as his “exceptional leadership and service” to Delta State, Ethiope West and Idjerhe Kingdom.
The ceremony was attended by political associates and stakeholders, including Comrade Johnson Okpoh, National Patron of Aghwemutuwevwi Political Forum; Hon. Ejairu Kingsley, Senior Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor; Hon. Blessing Akamugbe, National Coordinator, Aghwemutuwevwi Political Forum; and Comrade Godbless Ikogho, a member of the Delta State Waterways and Security team.
The Deputy Coordinator of the movement, Comrade Blessing Adogbeji, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing appreciation to Nani and the other dignitaries for receiving the delegation and supporting the youth initiative.
The visit ended with the youth movement reaffirming its commitment to deeper grassroots mobilisation and closer collaboration with APC leaders as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
