Chairman of the Governing Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Olorogun John Nani, has expressed profound gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori following the extension of the board’s tenure by one year, describing the gesture as a renewed vote of confidence in the commission’s leadership and development agenda.
Nani, who retains his position as chairman of the commission’s governing board, said the extension would provide the opportunity to consolidate ongoing projects and deepen interventions aimed at improving the lives of residents in oil-producing communities across Delta State.
He added that the renewed mandate would inspire members of the board to redouble their efforts in delivering sustainable development and impactful programmes to the people.
“I am sincerely grateful to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for finding us worthy of this renewed confidence. This extension is not merely an opportunity to continue in office; it is a call to greater service and commitment to the people of the oil-bearing communities.
“We remain focused on completing ongoing projects, initiating new people-oriented programmes and ensuring that every intervention of DESOPADEC translates into meaningful development for our communities. We will not take this confidence for granted,” he said.
The Delta State House of Assembly approved the one-year extension of the tenure of the DESOPADEC Governing Board during plenary on Tuesday following a request from Governor Oborevwori.
In a letter read on the floor of the House by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, the governor explained that the request became necessary following the expiration of the current board’s tenure in line with the law establishing the commission.
According to the governor, the extension is intended to ensure continuity in DESOPADEC’s programmes and guarantee the effective discharge of its statutory responsibilities to oil-producing communities across the state.
The House also screened and confirmed Mr. Cosmos Igbenije as a member of the commission’s governing board.
Governor Oborevwori had nominated Igbenije to replace Mrs. Cordelia Anyangwu, who resigned her appointment as a member of the board.
Following the presentation of the governor’s request, the House dissolved into the Committee of the Whole for the screening exercise, after which lawmakers unanimously confirmed Igbenije’s nomination.
Speaker Guwor subsequently charged the new board member to discharge his duties with diligence and in strict adherence to the laws guiding the commission.
The Speaker also congratulated Governor Oborevwori ahead of his third anniversary in office, praying for wisdom, strength and divine guidance for him in the administration of the state.
He further congratulated winners of the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries.
