Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Engr.) Victor Ochei, has formally resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a move that further deepens the growing crisis within the party in Delta State following the resignation of former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.
Ochei, in a resignation letter dated May 8, 2026 and addressed to the APC Chairman of Ward 4, Onicha-Olona, announced that his decision takes immediate effect.
The former lawmaker said his resignation followed “careful reflection and personal consideration,” while expressing appreciation to the party leadership and members for the support he enjoyed during his stay in the APC.
“I write to formally resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately,” Ochei stated in the letter.
“This decision was reached after careful reflection and personal consideration. I remain grateful for the opportunity given to me to serve and associate with the party over the years, as well as for the relationships and experiences gained during my membership.”
He also thanked party faithful across different levels for their goodwill and cooperation throughout his membership of the APC.
Ochei’s exit is coming barely 48 hours after Senator Omo-Agege announced his resignation from the APC, a development that has continued to trigger political realignments and uncertainty within the opposition party in Delta State.
Political observers believe the resignation of two high-profile figures signals widening discontent among influential stakeholders in the party ahead of future political calculations in the state.
Although Ochei did not disclose his next political destination, his departure is expected to fuel speculations over possible defections and alliances among key political actors in Delta.
Victor Ochei, a former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and influential political figure from Aniocha North Local Government Area, had been regarded as one of the notable APC leaders in Delta North.
His resignation further weakens the APC’s leadership structure in the state at a time the party is battling internal divisions and the fallout from recent political developments.
