The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Vice President, Zone F (South-South), Comrade Stella Macaulay, has condoled with veteran journalist Princess (Mrs.) Christy Ichofu, over the death of her husband, Pastor Patrick Ichofu.
Macaulay, who led some members of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on a condolence visit to the bereaved journalist at her Asaba residence on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, described the death as a painful moment that required the support and prayers of colleagues and loved ones.
Addressing Princess Ichofu, Macaulay said the journalists had come not merely to commiserate with her, but to stand by her at a difficult period, stressing that the bereaved remained “one of us.”
“We are here to commiserate with you. The Bible says, ‘Rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn,’” she said.
According to her, the reality of death was captured in the biblical teaching that there is “a time for everything,” including “a time to be born and a time to die.”
Macaulay urged the veteran journalist to take solace in God and the knowledge that colleagues were praying for her and the family as they came to terms with the loss.
“We are here to say that you are in our prayers. You are one of us,” she told Princess Ichofu.
She acknowledged the pain of losing a spouse, describing death as the inevitable end that eventually comes to every human being.
“At this time that death, which is the end of every man, has taken [him] away,” Macaulay said, offering words of comfort to the bereaved family.
She also appealed to Princess Ichofu to remain strong despite the grief, repeatedly urging her not to cry as colleagues rallied around her.
Meanwhile, Chief Goodnews Emamusi Obiodeh, Commissioner for Lands, Surveys and Urban Development, Delta State, and Hon. Ferguson Onwo, member of the Delta State House of Assembly representing Isoko South Constituency II, had on Monday, September 7, 2026, paid a condolence visit to Princess Ichofu to sympathise with her over the loss.
The visit took place at her son-in-law’s country home in Uzere, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State, where Obiodeh and Onwo urged the bereaved journalist to take solace in God and prayed for divine strength for the family.
The two politicians described the late Pastor Ichofu as a peaceful and friendly man who understood the feelings of others and treated people with kindness. They also prayed for the repose of his soul.
Since the passing of Pastor Ichofu, sympathisers from across Delta State have continued to extend heartfelt condolences to the Ichofu family, offering prayers for strength and comfort as they mourn their loss.
Pastor Patrick Ichofu died on Friday, September 4, 2026. He hailed from Ozoro and Ellu communities in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The succession of condolence visits has underscored the widespread respect for the late pastor and the strong bonds of solidarity surrounding his family, with colleagues, political leaders, friends and other sympathisers rallying around Princess Ichofu at a deeply painful moment.
