Nigeria’s Super Falcons produced a sensational second-half comeback to edge Morocco 3–2 in a pulsating Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) encounter on Saturday.

The hosts, Morocco, started brightly and raced to a two-goal lead within the first 25 minutes.

Ghizlane Chebbak opened the scoring in the 12th minute, before Sanaâ Mssoudy doubled the advantage in the 24th minute, sending the home crowd into wild celebration.

But the Super Falcons, nine-time champions before the match, showed their trademark resilience and dramatically turned the tide after the break.

Esther Okoronkwo sparked the comeback in the 64th minute, coolly converting from the penalty spot.

Just seven minutes later, Folashade Florence Ijamilusi drew Nigeria level with a well-taken goal in the 71st minute.

As the match appeared to be heading for a draw, Jennifer Echegini sealed the turnaround with a stunning winner in the 88th minute, completing an unforgettable night for the Nigerian side.

Statistically, Nigeria edged the contest with 14 shots (five on target) to Morocco’s 10, and held 55% of possession. The Falcons completed 280 passes with a 69% accuracy rate and earned five corners compared to Morocco’s three.

Despite the intensity, the game remained disciplined throughout, with no cards issued. Nigeria committed seven fouls, while Morocco recorded 12.

With this result, the Super Falcons continue to underline their dominance on the continent and reaffirm their status as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.
