Nigeria’s Super Falcons will face old rivals Cameroon on Sunday in a crucial quarter-final of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, with the encounter carrying more than just a place in the last four.
The Falcons enter the knockout stage after finishing second in Group C, where they recovered from an opening defeat to Malawi with victories over Zambia and Egypt.
Cameroon, meanwhile, progressed from Group D after an unbeaten campaign and will provide another major test for the defending African champions.
The quarter-final is scheduled for Sunday, August 9, with the winner moving into the semi-finals of the competition. The tournament also serves as part of Africa’s qualification route for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Nigeria’s record in the competition gives the Falcons a formidable pedigree. They remain Africa’s most successful women’s national team at the WAFCON, having won the title 10 times, including the 2024 edition.
But past success offers no guarantee in Sunday’s encounter. Cameroon topped its group unbeaten and will be looking to upset the defending champions and advance to the semi-finals.
For Nigeria, the assignment is straightforward: survive the quarter-final and keep the defence of their continental crown alive.
