The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has grounded a privately operated aircraft and suspended the operator’s permit following an unauthorised landing on a roadway in Delta State.
The incident, which reportedly occurred around the Ogwashi-Uku axis near Asaba, triggered immediate regulatory action by the aviation authority amid growing concerns over air safety compliance.
In a statement, the NCAA confirmed that the aircraft had been grounded pending the outcome of investigations.
“The NCAA has suspended the operator’s Permit for Non-Commercial Flight (PNCF),” the authority said, adding that it had commenced a review of the operator’s compliance with safety and operational regulations.
The regulator further disclosed that it had notified the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and was working with relevant stakeholders, including the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), to determine the circumstances surrounding the occurrence.
While details regarding the aircraft operator and reasons for the landing were still emerging as of press time, aviation experts noted that unsanctioned landings outside approved aerodromes raise significant safety and regulatory concerns.
The NCAA emphasised that the safety of Nigeria’s airspace remains paramount and assured the public that appropriate sanctions would be imposed if any violations of aviation regulations are found.
The incident has sparked widespread public interest, with many Nigerians awaiting the outcome of the investigation into one of the country’s most unusual aviation occurrences in recent years.
