Human Rights Activist Backs Obi of Ogwashi-Uku as Wong Box Remains in Federal Custody

Prominent Niger Delta Human Rights Activist and Urhobo Youth leader, Comrade Efemena Umukoro, has openly commended and prayed for the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Obi (Dr.) Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II, following the detention of controversial social media activist, Victor Ojei, popularly known as Wong Box, by the Federal High Court sitting in Asaba.

Victor Ojei is presently facing trial in Charge No. FHC/ASB/32C/2026 bordering on allegations of cyberstalking, false publication, cyberbullying, and dissemination of allegedly misleading information against the revered traditional ruler of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom. The case has continued to generate widespread reactions across Delta State and beyond, particularly on social media platforms where Wong Box built a large following through sensational activist content.

In a lengthy video message posted on his verified Facebook page and viewed by tens of thousands of followers, Comrade Umukoro narrated in detail his past relationship with Wong Box and expressed deep disappointment over what he described as a repeated pattern of falsehood, manipulation, harassment, and reckless publication against individuals.

According to Umukoro, he alongside well-known activist, Harrison Gwamnishu and social commentator, Mama P had previously intervened and assisted Wong Box when he was arrested after a viral incident involving officials of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC). Wong Box had allegedly been caught on video wielding a cutlass during a confrontation with BEDC officials who reportedly came to disconnect electricity supply to his residence over months of unpaid electricity bills.

Umukoro explained that he personally approached the then Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Olufemi Abaniwonda — now retired Assistant Inspector General of Police — to help facilitate Wong Box’s release from detention at the time.

However, the activist stated that his relationship with Wong Box later deteriorated after what he described as shocking acts of dishonesty and betrayal. He recounted how he visited the Governor of Delta State shortly after Wong Box regained his freedom, only to allegedly discover that Wong Box was secretly making false claims and attempting to discredit him during a phone conversation with the governor, unaware that Umukoro himself was physically present with the governor and listening to the discussion.

Comrade Umukoro further alleged that Wong Box later embarked on a campaign of falsehood against him by spreading claims regarding his origin and identity, including allegations that he was from Ghana — claims he described as entirely fabricated and maliciously intended to damage his reputation and credibility.

According to him, the false statements became so serious that he was compelled to prepare a petition to the Inspector General of Police over the alleged defamatory publications and coordinated misinformation campaign against him.

He disclosed that the matter was eventually discontinued after intervention and appeals by prominent activist and publisher of Secret Reporters, Fejiro Oliver.

The Urhobo youth leader used the opportunity to caution members of the public about what he described as the dangers of unverified activist publications and social media bullying, warning that individuals should not publish damaging allegations against others without proper verification and credible evidence.

Recall that Victor Ojei, popularly known as Wong Box, was recently remanded in prison custody by the Federal High Court Asaba following allegations that he made false and misleading publications against the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom concerning ownership of land in Ogwashi-Uku.

The controversial social media activist had allegedly published claims on his Facebook platform accusing the Obi of unlawfully taking community land and selling same to Chinese nationals. However, documents and findings surrounding the matter reportedly showed that the land in question had already been lawfully acquired by a company as far back as 2011 under a valid Certificate of Occupancy issued by the Delta State Government — several years before Obi Ifechukwude Okonjo II ascended the throne as Obi of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom.

The matter has since become one of the most widely discussed cyberbullying and misinformation-related cases currently before the Federal High Court in Delta State.

The court is expected to hear Wong Box’s bail application on the next adjourned date, after which substantive proceedings in the trial are expected to commence.

Meanwhile, many followers of Comrade Umukoro Efemena flooded the comment section of his video message with reactions praising him for what they described as a courageous and principled stand.

Several commenters openly advised him not to intervene or assist Wong Box in his current legal troubles, insisting that public activism must be guided by truth, responsibility, and verification rather than sensationalism and personal attacks.
