Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has expressed condolences to the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and the entire Okonjo family of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom, Delta State, over the death of their matriarch, Professor Kamene Okonjo, at the age of 96.
Dafinone, in a condolence message, described the late professor as a woman whose life was marked by scholarship, commitment to women’s empowerment and service to humanity, noting that her contributions would continue to inspire generations.
He said Professor Okonjo’s legacy of excellence, compassion and devotion to family would remain a source of inspiration, even as her passing leaves a significant void among her loved ones and the wider community.
“Mama lived a remarkable life of purpose and impact, distinguished by her contributions to scholarship, women’s empowerment and service to humanity,” the senator said.
He added that her enduring legacy would live on through the lives she touched and the values she upheld throughout her lifetime.
Dafinone expressed particular sympathy with Okonjo-Iweala, His Royal Majesty, Obi Ifechukwude Okonjo II, and other members of the Okonjo family as they mourned their loss.
“While her passing is a profound loss, there is comfort in the knowledge that she lived a fulfilled life and left lasting footprints in society,” he said.
The senator noted that although the family was grieving, the late professor’s accomplishments and impact on society would remain a lasting part of her memory.
On behalf of his family and the people of Delta Central Senatorial District, Dafinone prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased and divine strength for the bereaved family.
“I pray that Almighty God grants her eternal rest and gives the family the strength and fortitude to bear this loss,” he said.
