The Presidency has clarified that the exits of Wale Edun and Ahmed Musa Dangiwa from the Federal Executive Council were voluntary resignations, not dismissals.
According to a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Edun—former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy—formally tendered his resignation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing health concerns.
The statement noted that Edun, who recently turned 70, stepped down after what was described as a period of declining health. In his resignation letter, he expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve.
“It has been a pleasure and privilege to serve your administration and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Edun wrote, wishing the government continued success.
Similarly, Dangiwa, former Minister of Housing and Urban Development, also resigned his position and thanked the President for the opportunity to contribute to national development during his time in office.
The Presidency highlighted that both men played key roles in advancing the administration’s economic and housing reforms.
President Tinubu commended their service and wished them well in their future endeavours.
Following Edun’s resignation, the President has tasked Taiwo Oyedele, the newly appointed Minister of Finance, with consolidating ongoing reforms and strengthening fiscal discipline.
In the housing sector, the President is expected to forward the nomination of Muttaqha Rabe Darma to the Senate for confirmation as the new Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
