Incumbent Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, has described his victory at the All Progressives Congress senatorial primary as a defining moment for both the party and the people of Delta Central, while calling for unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Dafinone, who emerged victorious in the APC Delta Central Senatorial Primary Election held on Monday, expressed gratitude to party leaders, delegates and supporters for what he described as a transparent, peaceful and credible exercise.
In a statement issued after the declaration of results, the senator said the conduct of the primaries reaffirmed confidence in internal democracy within the All Progressives Congress.
According to him, the outcome reflected the true will of party faithful across the eight local government areas that make up Delta Central Senatorial District.
“Today marks a defining moment for our great party and for the people of Delta Central Senatorial District,” Dafinone stated, adding that he was “deeply humbled” by the mandate given to him.
He commended the Executive Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, for what he described as the governor’s commitment to the unity, stability and progress of the APC in the state.
Dafinone also praised President Bola Tinubu and the APC national leadership for ensuring what he called a level playing field during the primary process.
The senator specifically acknowledged the roles played by the APC National Assembly Primary Committee, the Collation Officer, Hon. Dr. Okiemute E. Benjamin, Barr. Nusa Amagbor, Secretary of the committee, and committee member, Abimbola Samuel Dart, for their professionalism during the exercise.
He disclosed that he secured 116,252 votes across the eight local government areas of the senatorial district, describing the figures as a clear indication of the confidence party members have in his leadership and vision for Delta Central.
Dafinone used the opportunity to extend an olive branch to former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, who contested the primary alongside him.
He urged Omo-Agege and his supporters to unite with the party leadership in preparation for the 2027 elections.
“Elections and primaries may come with competition, but at the end of the day, we remain members of one political family with a shared vision for the advancement of Delta State and Nigeria,” he said.
The senator further pledged to continue pursuing policies and programmes aimed at improving development, economic growth, security, empowerment and effective representation for the people of Delta Central.
He assured party members and supporters that he would not betray the confidence reposed in him and called for sustained unity and determination within the APC ahead of future electoral contests.
