The death of prominent businessman and electronics dealer, Chief Godwin Chinedu Lucky Adimike, popularly known as “Egonaejeije Na Awka-Etiti,” has sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s business community as police continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding his killing in Abuja.
Adimike, a respected entrepreneur with strong ties to the electronics and import business at the Alaba International Market in Lagos, was found critically injured at his residence on Hassan Adamu Street in the upscale Guzape district of the Federal Capital Territory.
He was later confirmed dead at Karu General Hospital.
Early reports circulating on social media alleged that the 53-year-old businessman was stabbed during a domestic dispute involving his son following an argument over finances and management of family business interests.
Several online platforms claimed the altercation occurred on Friday, May 15, 2026, at the family residence.
However, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has not officially confirmed those allegations.
Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said the command commenced investigations after receiving a distress call concerning the inability of relatives and associates to reach the businessman.
Officers who responded reportedly found him in a pool of blood and immediately rushed him to hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead.
According to the police, five suspects, including a relative of the deceased, have been taken into custody while investigators work to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
Commissioner of Police Ahammed Muhammed Sanusi has ordered a discreet and thorough investigation into the case.
Adimike, an indigene of Awka-Etiti in Anambra State, was widely known within the electronics trading sector and had reportedly built a substantial business empire spanning electronics imports, real estate and other investments.
Associates described him as an influential figure at Alaba International Market and a philanthropist who supported community development initiatives.
Amid widespread speculation, the Adimike family has appealed to the public and media organisations to avoid spreading unverified claims regarding the tragedy.
In a statement, the family warned against misinformation and stressed that no official conclusion had been reached by investigators concerning responsibility for the killing.
“The family states unequivocally that many of the claims currently being circulated are speculative, misleading and unsupported by facts emerging from the ongoing police investigation,” the statement said.
As investigations continue, friends, business associates and members of the Awka-Etiti community have continued to mourn the late entrepreneur, remembering him for his business achievements, generosity and contributions to society.
