Rotarian Samuel Ajenakevwe Adjogbe, PhD, FNSE, AKS, has been installed as the pioneer president of the Rotary Club of Evwreni, District 9141.

Adjogbe, a native of Evwreni Kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State is a registered engineer by COREN and an astute fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Automotive & Locomotive Engineers Institute, and the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

The Charter presentation and installation ceremony of Rotarian Adjogbe which took place on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Eclat Royal Hotels in Ughelli Area of Delta State, was chaired by Rotarian Judith Enamuotor.

The ceremony also featured the induction of the Board of Directors, new members and launching of Service Project.

District Governor, Rotary District 9141, Rotarian Emeke Utebor while performing the installation ceremony urged members to continue to work in line with the tenets of Rotary Club in order to affect the lives of people positively.

Rotarian Utebor appreciated the commitment of every member of the club describing their invaluable contributions as the most important tool to advance the fortunes of the world.

He noted that Rotary Club was established to provide selfless services and enjoined its members to stick to the ideas of the club at all times.

He also appealed to the indigenes of Evwreni Kingdom to support the newly installed President and members of Rotary Club of Evwreni to enable them to affect society positively.

Past District Governor, Rotary District 9141, Rotarian Nze Anizor citing a true-life story encouraged all to use their resources to improve on any bad situations.

Chairman of the occasion, Rotarian Judith Enamuotor attributed the successful creation of Rotary Club of Evwreni to the efforts of some of its members, particularly the pioneer President, Rotarian Samuel Adjogbe describing his elevation as a feat that did not come with a surprise.

In his acceptance speech, Rotarian Adjogbe commended the Rotary Club of Ughelli, Rotary Club of Effurun metropolis and others for their contributions to the berthing of the Rotary Club of Evwreni.

He said, “The idea of Rotary Club of Evwreni was muted by Rtn. Aloba Akpevwe, PHF and I and we got Rtn. Clementina Ejabefio, PAG, PHF+1 involved. We worked with other Rotarians and new members to achieve the chartering of the club. We held the first inaugural fellowship meeting on February 22, 2023, at the Eclat Royal Hotels, Ovwodokpokpor Ogor. There were many other people in attendance especially fellow Rotarians from Rotary clubs of Asaba GRA and Sapele Metro.

“After the first fellowship meeting, we encountered some administrative challenges during the chartering process which caused some delays but despite the challenges we were eventually able to successfully charter the Rotary Club of Evwreni on July 12, 2023. It was a thing of joy when the District Governor, Rtn. Emeke Utebor broke the news of the RI President’s approval of the Club to me. Our fellowship continued on a biweekly basis (first and third weeks of every month). The club was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Effurun GRA. I am happy to report that we were 26 Rotarians that constituted the Charter members of the club and another 5 intending Rotarians that are ready for induction today. It is also worthy to mention that there are many more friends and individuals who wished to be part of the Rotary Club of Evwreni but for their inability to meet the basic financial requirements at this time. We are hopeful that their financial situation would improve in a no distant time to enable them become a functional part of our club.

Rotarian Adjogbe who listed some ongoing and executed projects embarked upon by the Rotary Club of Evwreni for the 2023/2024 Rotary calendar year appealed to members to continue to be generous.

“Recall that in the month of July, just after the chartering of the Rotary Club of Evwreni, we embarked on a Child & Mother Care event at the General hospital, Ugheli. At the hospital, the club gave 30 delivery kits to indigent pregnant women. This was in line with the Rotary International expectation for the month of July 2023.

“In the same vein, the club executed the installation of two mono pump projects at Otogor community in Ogor kingdom and Uneni community in Evwreni kingdom, both in Ughelli North LGA of Delta State. This was also in line with Rotary International expectation for the month of August, 2023. Also, in the month of August, the club sent three Rotarians to participate in the 2023 public image seminar & membership training organised by the district 9141 in Sapele from August 25- 26,2023.

“In the month of September, Rotary International expectation or focus area is on basic education & literacy. Rotary club of Evwreni in conjunction with Samuel Adjogbe Foundation has made an arrangement to distribute a total of 5,000 notebooks of various sizes to pupils and students of some selected schools within Ughelli North LGA of Delta State.

“I wish to also report that our club had the privilege of receiving and holding a fellowship meeting with the District 9141 Governor, Rtn. Emeke Utebor, and his entourage on August 23, 2023 during his official visitation to the different clubs across District 9141 in August 2023. He also commissioned the two water sumo pump projects in Evwreni and Ogor kingdoms. We are most grateful to the entire district for this honour and special encouragement treatment as a new born club in District 9141.

“It is worthy to mention that, the club participated in the 2023 Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) program organized by the District 9141 in Benin City, Edo State from August 30- September 3, 2023. Rotary Club of Evwreni is commited to meet the Rotay International expectations or focus areas for the remaining period of the 2023/24 Rotary year.

“Let me crave the indulgence of everyone that the seven focus areas of Rotary International include the following: Peace building & conflict prevention I resolution; Disease prevention & treatment; Water, sanitation and hygiene; Maternal & child health; Basic education & literacy;, Economic & economic community development; and Supporting the environment. Rotary annual activities are planned around these focus areas. The various contributions made by clubs and friends of Rotary are distributed and assigned to these focus areas from July to June, representing the Rotary calendar year.

“In line with the above, Rotary club of Ewreni community related projects for the Rotary year of 2023/24 have been carefully selected and planned around the aforementioned focus areas. These community related projects include but may not be limited to the following: Presentation of delivery kits to pregnant women at the Ugheli general hospital; Driling of water borehole in two selected communities; Distribution of 5,000 notebooks to selected schools within Ugheli LGA; Unveiling of a Rotary Wheel in a selected roundabout in Ewreni; Peace and conflict resolutions seminar/workshop for youths within Ughelli North LGA; Installation of signposts in selected locations within Evwreni & its environs; Provision of uniforms to pupils and students in selected schools; Awareness campaign on the use of hard drugs and their bad efects on society; and Donation of mosquito nets to expectant mothers @ a Health Care Centre. The budget for these projects is estimated at Four million, three hundred & seventy-three thousand Naira (N4,373,000.00) only. These projects would have far-reaching efects on the people within and around the communities where we exist as a club. Continuous execution of Rotary club of Evwreni annual community projects and programs would make us a fulfilled group as a people. It is my appeal, on behalf of the club, that, we should kindly make some donations, however big or small it may appear to be, to enable us execute the project plan for the 2023/24 year.

“As a co-founder & president of the Engr. Dr. Samuel Adjogbe Foundation, we currenty have 33 secondary school indigent students plus other six new students as 2023/24 intakes in our scholarship program in three schools in Ughelli North LGA, namely Government College, Ughelli, Anglican Girls Grammar School, Ughelli, and Agor-lwe Memorial Anglican Boys Grammar School, Ugheli. The scholarship program which was initially managed in conjunction with the Rolary Club of Ughelli Metropolis but currently being managed by the Rotary Club of Evwreni. This program is targeting at giving opportunities to those who have the brains but arefinancially challenged to progress in their education strides. Whereas, Samuel Adjogbe Foundation provides the funding for the scholarship, the Rotary Club of Evwreni provides human resource support to the program.

“Mr. Chairman, District Governor and distinguished guests, let us imagine a world where everyone is a Rotarian. Imagine a worid that pays keen attention to environmental issues, health issues, conflict resolution & peace awareness issues, education issues, human capital development issues, to mention but a few of them, then, the word would definitely be a better place for us all. Rotary International is at the forefront of championing these cardinal areas as represented as Rotary focus areas to enable a better world for everyone. I therefore, call on everyone to be part of these efforts by joining a Rotary club within his or her location of work, residence or even community origin, so that together we can create and achieve the dream of Rotary in our communities, for the individual clubs are the bedrock of the Rotary International. My appeal is that let us tap into the different benefits of Rotary International especially leadership training opportunities. This is because, without good leadership, the whole world would be in a disaster and possibly crumble.

The Rotary Club of Ughelli Metropolis is highly appreciated for preparing us for the task ahead. My special thanks go to the all the invitees who are here to support us in building the Rotary Club of Evwreni. Let me personally thank the royal and spiritual fathers of the day and also the royal host father of today. I will also like to thank my wife and children for allowing me to take up this task of being the pioneer president of the Rotary Club of Evwreni. In addition, my sincere gratitude goes to the members and board of directors of the Rotary Club of Evwreni for their unquantifiable understanding and support shown during the challenging period of the chartering process including their financial contributions and active participation in our community activities and attendance at the District’s training events. Finally, I want to thank the Installation planning committee members for their good engagements in the planning to this final execution stage. Above all, I would not fail to recognize God Almighty for His infinite love, grace and mercy upon our lives, without Whom, we are nobody in our existence,” said Rotarian Adjogbe in his speech.
