Delta State Government has again reiterated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration’s determination to establish more public secondary schools so as to reduce the overpopulation of students across the state.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Augustine Oghoro stated this in Asaba during the handing over of 18 classroom blocks of Women Affairs Secondary School to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

Oghoro commended the State Ministry of Women Affairs for the vision to build the school, adding that the gesture was a welcome development and assured of the Governor’s commitment to improving the education system.

He stated that the new Women Affairs Secondary School would go a long in decongesting the overwhelming population of students in Unity School and West End Secondary School, Asaba.

Oghoro noted that the donation of the school by the Ministry of Women Affairs would boost access to education in the core area of Asaba

The PS explained that pupils in Women Affairs Primary School and the Staff Quarters Primary School would be absorbed into the Women Affairs Secondary School.

He disclosed that about 200 students would be admitted into JSS 1, adding that some students in public secondary schools who were in  JSS 2 in Asaba would be transferred to Women Affairs Secondary School to continue their education there.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Mrs. Oghenekevwe Agas said that the Ministry of Women Affairs built the school to assist the state government in decongesting the already overpopulated public secondary schools in Asaba.

Mrs Agas, who handed the keys of the 18 classroom blocks to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education on behalf of the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Hon. (Mrs) Princess Pat Ajudua stated that with the establishment of the school, education of the children in Asaba would continue to improve.

She urged teachers in the school to discharge their duties diligently and ensure that they impacted positively on the children.
