Two days after releasing the results of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has clarified why the results of 167,486 candidates remain withheld.
WAEC said the affected results are being reviewed over alleged examination malpractice, stressing that the decision does not amount to an automatic cancellation of the candidates’ performance.
The examination body explained that the withheld results are undergoing scrutiny by its relevant committees, which will determine whether the results should be released or cancelled after reviewing the evidence and hearing from affected candidates where necessary.
According to WAEC, withholding results is part of its established quality assurance process aimed at protecting the integrity and credibility of its examinations.
The Council urged affected candidates, parents and schools to remain calm while investigations continue, assuring that all cases would be handled in accordance with its examination regulations.
WAEC reiterated its commitment to ensuring fairness and transparency, noting that only candidates found culpable after due process would face appropriate sanctions.
The Council also advised candidates whose results have been released to access them through its official result-checking portal using the prescribed procedures.
