Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered a new dimension to drug trafficking after intercepting 2.80 kilograms of cocaine ingeniously concealed in food flasks and snack packs at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The seizure, which took place on Thursday, April 9, 2026, was made by NDLEA officers attached to the export shed of the airport during a routine cargo screening operation.
In a statement released on Sunday, the agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said two cargo agents—Ama Obinna Ufeim, 33, and Ogabi Monday Akorede, 39—were arrested at the scene while attempting to process the illicit consignment for export.
Babafemi disclosed that the cocaine was carefully hidden inside food containers in a bid to beat security checks, but vigilant operatives detected the unusual packaging during inspection.
He added that further investigation led to the identification of the sender as a 52-year-old freight and forwarding agent, Agoro Tajudeen Moninuola, who was subsequently apprehended in a follow-up operation.
The NDLEA spokesman noted that the arrest of the trio highlights the agency’s growing success in dismantling drug trafficking networks exploiting Nigeria’s export system.
He reiterated the agency’s resolve to sustain its clampdown on drug cartels, warning that traffickers would find no safe haven as surveillance and intelligence gathering continue to improve across air, land, and sea entry points.
The latest bust adds to a string of recent interceptions by the anti-narcotics agency, underscoring the evolving tactics of drug syndicates and the heightened vigilance of enforcement authorities in curbing the menace.
