Founding leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, has confirmed he is consulting widely over a possible bid for the Delta Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections, as pressure mounts from both elders and youths across the district.
Emerhor made this known on Tuesday at his country home in Evwreni, Ughelli North Local Government Area, while responding to separate appeals from Elders/Leaders of Emerhor Political Family (EPF) and the Delta Central Youth Council.
Reflecting on his political journey, Emerhor thanked his supporters for their loyalty since 2013, when he first contested under the APC shortly after its formation.
He recalled emerging as the party’s governorship candidate in Delta State in 2015, noting that those early efforts helped lay the foundation for what he described as a now dominant political structure in the state.
He said the APC has grown significantly over the years, especially with the alignment of former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), creating a broader and more formidable platform.
“We are now one big family,” he stated, expressing confidence in the party’s strength ahead of the next general elections.
Emerhor reaffirmed commitment to delivering President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and re-electing Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in 2027, describing both as top priorities for the party.
On the growing calls for him to contest the Delta Central Senate seat, Emerhor acknowledged the support but stressed that political decisions must follow due process within the party.
“Politics is not a simple matter. You don’t jump ahead of leadership,” he said, explaining that the party’s candidate would emerge through either consensus or primary elections within the legally stipulated timeframe.
While stopping short of a formal declaration, he gave a strong indication of interest.
“While I cannot immediately say I’m running, I am consulting for the Senate,” he said, adding that if consultations turn out positively, he would rely on the support of party members to secure victory for himself and other APC candidates.
Leaders of the Emerhor Political Family (EPF), who visited him earlier, said their call was a deliberate and strategic move to ensure political balance in Delta Central.
The position was made by the Chairman of the Elders/Leaders of EPF, Chief Martins Owhoevwo, alongside Sir Godwin Ohwoekevwo, Dr Kennedy Okparavero, Comrade Enakurerhi Oghenemine, Deaconess Margaret Akpode and the State Coordinator of EPF, Hon. Mudiaga Okorefe.
According to the leaders, the appeal is not based on sentiment but on the need to strengthen representation for Delta Central at the National Assembly.
They said political structures across the district are already mobilised and prepared, stressing that Emerhor has the capacity, goodwill and widespread acceptance to deliver effective representation.
Describing him as a committed party builder and experienced leader, the group urged him to heed the call, assuring him of total loyalty and readiness to follow his direction.
They added that members of the EPF have long been prepared for his senatorial ambition and are only awaiting his signal to fully activate their grassroots structures.
Similarly, the Delta Central Youth Council threw its weight behind Emerhor’s potential candidacy, endorsing him as its preferred choice for the Senate.
Speaking on behalf of the group, State Coordinator, Comrade Joseph Edegware, said the decision followed extensive consultations and careful assessment of potential candidates across the district.
He explained that the youths unanimously settled on Emerhor based on his track record, leadership experience and contributions to political development in Delta Central.
Describing him as a leader who has “paid his dues,” Edegware said the endorsement reflects the belief that he has earned the opportunity to represent the district at the National Assembly.
“Our father has paid his dues. We are ready to give him our votes and go the extra mile to ensure victory,” he said.
The youth leader added that the council has already commenced mobilisation efforts across communities, both physically and through media engagement, and is fully prepared to deliver electoral support if Emerhor accepts the call.
He emphasized that coordinators across the district are energised and committed, noting that the visit was aimed at formally urging Emerhor to “pick up the ticket” with the assurance of 100 percent backing.
The coordinated endorsements from elders and youths underscore a growing consensus within key blocs in Delta Central, positioning Emerhor as a leading contender ahead of the APC’s internal processes for the 2027 senatorial race.
