The Chairman of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Olorogun John Nani, has applauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori following Delta State’s emergence as the second-best governed state in Nigeria in the 2025 Commonwealth Institute of Advanced and Professional Studies (CIAPS) Governance Performance Index.
Nani described the ranking as a strong endorsement of the governor’s leadership style and the impact of the administration’s MORE Agenda on infrastructure development, public service delivery and economic growth across the state.
Delta State secured a score of 70 per cent in the latest governance assessment, placing second among the 36 states of the federation and trailing only Kaduna State, which topped the index with 73 per cent.
Reacting to the development, Nani said the recognition did not come as a surprise to many Deltans who had witnessed significant improvements in road infrastructure, healthcare, education and rural development since Oborevwori assumed office.
According to him, the ranking reflects the administration’s commitment to prudent governance, accountability and people-centred development.
“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has demonstrated that responsive leadership and effective governance can translate into measurable results. This national recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication and vision that have characterised his administration,” Nani said.
He noted that Delta’s position ahead of many economically and politically influential states further underscores the effectiveness of the governor’s development policies.
“The CIAPS Governance Performance Index has provided an independent assessment of governance across the country, and for Delta to emerge second among all states is a remarkable achievement. It shows that the investments being made in infrastructure, healthcare, education and human capital development are yielding tangible results.”
The DESOPADEC chairman said the governor’s MORE Agenda had continued to improve living conditions across communities in the state, particularly in oil-producing areas where development interventions have gained renewed momentum.
Nani commended the governor for creating an enabling environment for institutions and agencies of government to deliver on their mandates, stressing that the administration’s emphasis on transparency and service delivery had contributed significantly to the state’s impressive performance.
“This achievement belongs to all Deltans. It is proof that when leadership is focused and committed to the welfare of the people, progress becomes inevitable. Governor Oborevwori deserves commendation for steering Delta on a path of sustainable growth and development,” he added.
He urged residents to continue supporting the administration’s programmes and policies, noting that sustained collaboration between government and citizens would help consolidate the gains already recorded.
The CIAPS Governance Performance Index evaluates governance outcomes and public administration effectiveness across Nigeria’s 36 states, serving as a benchmark for accountability, transparency and sustainable development.
The 2025 report ranked Delta State second nationwide with 70 per cent, ahead of 34 other states, reinforcing growing confidence in the Oborevwori administration’s governance reforms and development initiatives.
