Vehicle Inspection Officers, VIOs, and other staff of parastatals in the Delta State Ministry of Transport have been admonished to key into Governor Sheriff Oberovwori’s MORE Agenda, to enable them to receive better welfare packages, perform better and render quality service to Deltans.

The State Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Onoriode Agofure, gave the charge during a familiarization tour of assets owned by the Delta State Directorate of Transport.

The two-day tour saw the Commissioner visiting VIO Zonal Offices in Ughelli, Udu, Sapele, Oghara, Warri and other areas.

Agofure, accompanied by the Director of Vehicle Inspection, Delta State Ministry of Transport, Engineer Vincent Ehiwario, and the Director of Administration, Mrs. Priscilla Eyeragba, visited the Computerized Vehicle Inspection Service, Asaba, the Delta State Ultra Modern Mechanic Village, Asaba, as well as VIO Zonal Offices in Okpanam, Asaba, Ohwash-Uku, Agbor, Owa-Oyibu, Obiaruku, Ozoro, Oleh, and Kwale.

They later took their familiarization tour to VIO Zonal Offices and assets of the Ministry in Warri, Effurun, Sapele, Oghara, Ughelli and other areas.

While commending the VIOs in the various zonal offices for their efforts in ensuring that Deltans adhere to traffic laws, Hon. Agofure charged them to do more in ensuring safety on roads, service to Deltans, and generate more revenue for the state.

Agofure who noted that there would be a rebranding and revolution in the operation of the VIOs, advised them to change their approach to service while keying into Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E Agenda, as their output will determine the input of his administration.

The Commissioner of Transport charged them to work like never before, devoid of corrupt practices and extortion.

On the challenges faced by VIOs which have so far limited their effectiveness, the Commissioner assured that the present administration of Governor Oborevwori will do everything possible to resuscitate the Directorate of Transport.

He however frowned at the poor maintenance culture exhibited by some staff, noting that it will not be business as usual for ghost workers and other staff of the Directorate of Transport who are nonchalant in the discharge of their duties.

The commissioner also enjoined Deltans to patronize the nearest Computerized Vehicle Inspection Service centre to run extensive checks on their vehicles for a subsidized rate.

Responding, the Heads of the VIO Zonal Offices visited, thanked the commissioner for his hands-on approach, and promised to do more in their service to Deltans.

They noted that such a visit by the commissioner, which has not been observed for some time now is a morale booster, and that they intend to play their parts in revolutionizing the State.

Places visited by the Commissioner for Transport include the VIO Zonal Office in Ughelli, Udu, Otokutu, Agbarho, Warri, Oghara, Sapele, Effurun and Orerokpe.

Others include the Delta Waterways yard Warri, the abandoned mega bus terminal along Airport Road, Effurun, the Drivers License Office, NigerCat Ekpan, the old tankers/trailers park at NigerCat Ekpan, and the new tankers/trailers park under construction along NigerCat road Ekpan.

The high point of the tour by the Commissioner for Transport and his entourage was the road worthiness check conducted on Hon. Agofure’s Sports Utility Vehicle, by staff of the Delta State Computerized Vehicle Inspection Service, Sapele.
