The Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Orhue I has urged the Delta State Directorate of Project Monitoring and Audit not to relent in ensuring Deltans get value from monies spent executing projects across the state.
The Orodje stated this when he received on a courtesy visit the Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Project Monitoring and Audit, Dr Goodnews Agbi and his team at his palace office in Orerokpe headquarters of Okpe Local Government Area.
Dr Agbi and his team were at Orerokpe to inspect some ongoing road projects including the road leading to the palace of the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom.
The Okpe monarch noted that the Delta State Directorate of Project Monitoring and Audit job is key to the realization of the MORE agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.
According to the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom who is the Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council the hope of Deltans getting quality jobs delivered by contractors depends to a large extent on the effectiveness of supervision to prevent them from cutting corners which ends in shoddy job delivery.
The revered traditional ruler drew the attention of the Dr Agbi-led project monitoring team to an observation he had raised with the State Ministry of Works, Rural Roads concerning the necessary drainage channels that should be put in place by the contractor handling the palace road project.
This, he particularly noted would ease the flow of water to a nearby river to guard against flooding of people’s houses, especially during the rainy season.
Another concern raised by the monarch was the deplorable state of Orerokpe/Aragba road whose rehabilitation according to him was poorly done and called for it to be re-awarded for the benefit of the people.
Earlier, the Special Adviser on Project Monitoring and Audit, Dr Goodnews Agbi told the Orodje of Okpe Kingdom that the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is doing its best to transform Delta State hence the Directorate under his watch cannot afford contractors to let the people down.
The Directorate Dr Agbi emphasized would uphold fairness and not compromise on standards in the discharge of its assignments.
The monitoring team before visiting Orerokpe inspected some sections of the Sector A of the Ughelli/Asaba road dualisation.
Of particular attention to the team was the failed portion around the Ellu axis which the contracting firm, Levant was on site to fix.
Dr Agbi and a team of engineers with the Directorate gave clear job specifications to the firm to strictly adhere to prevent the section from failing again when the rains start pouring heavily this year.
The Site Manager for Levant, Jean Sabagh assured the Agbi-led project monitoring team that the areas of concern observed would be corrected.
