Sonia Grey wins DBS Song Of The Year season four

Sonia Grey on Thursday won the Delta Broadcasting Service, DBS Warri, Song Of The Year season four music talent hunt competition.

Grey won the One Million naira star prize, Augustar Agbovure clinched the second position and went home with Five Hundred Thousand naira while Useoghene Kuru came third and carted home Two Hundred Thousand naira.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God Redeemers Men Multipurpose Hall Edjeba venue of the finals was filled to capacity as family members, friends and fans converged to see the winners.

Declaring the event open, General Manager of DBS Warri, Pastor Malcolm Oteri said the programme is part of the corporate social responsibility of the station aimed at discovering talented singers and grooming them to stardom.

He thanked various sponsors and appealed for the upgrade of the prize money.

Chairman of the DBS Song of the Year Committee, Mrs Obes Isonguyo said this year’s competition was carefully packaged to meet international standards and appealed for more sponsors.

The music competition powered by the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, had the Managing Director, Chief Festus Ochonogor represented by Executive Director, Social Services, Chief Favour Izuokumor and another sponsor, ND Western Limited represented by Mr Dele Asiekhalaye and Mrs Eunice Akporubo.

Chief Ochonogor and Mr Asiekhalaye hailed the standard of the programme noting that they decided to sponsor the programme as it is part of human capital development geared towards reducing youth restiveness.

Then, it was time for the five contestants Sonia Grey, Augustar Agbovure, Useoghene Kuru, Dorlyn Orison and Blessing Omamuzo to give an account of themselves before the judges and the audience.

The judges made up of Lagos-based Warri-born artiste, design and music producer, Festus Umolo and DBS Warri Music Director, Mrs Obes Isonguyo had a difficult time selecting the men from the boys.

At the end of the competition, Sonia Grey came first and won the one million naira star price, Augustar Agbovure clinched the second position and went home with five hundred thousand naira while Useoghene Kuru came third and carted home two hundred thousand naira.

Sonia Grey, Augustar Agbovure, and Useoghene Kuru thanked the organisers of the competition and thanked God for emerging victorious.

Popular comedian Alegbe X-choir, MC Douglas and Mr Eniye thrilled the audience with ribs cracking jokes.

Top management staff of the DBS Warri attended the ceremony which climaxed with the presentation of prizes to the winners.
