Atiku picks Wike as running mate

Governor Nyesom Wike has emerged as the running mate to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Earlier Tuesday, the National Chairman of PDP, Senator Iyiochia Ayu, was reported to have said at a meeting with the party’s governors and an enlarged caucus of the party that Atiku’s running mate will emerge within the next 48 hours, ahead of the Friday, June 17, 2022, deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

According to a dependable source at the PDP national headquarters, Abuja, the 19-man PDP committee saddled with the responsibility of selecting of Atiku’s VP, had earlier narrowed the choices to Governors Wike and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

The source said when they voted it went in favour of Wike who scored 16 votes while Okowa had 3 votes.
