Ominimini Dumps APC, Questions Fairness of Future Primaries in Delta

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Delta State, Chief Ominimini Christopher Obiuwevbi, has resigned his membership from the party, citing unresolved factional crises, alleged marginalisation of old members and uncertainty surrounding the party’s structure ahead of future primaries.

Ominimini, in a resignation letter dated May 8, 2026 and addressed to APC Ward Chairmen in Agbarha Ward, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, said the lingering divisions within the party had made it impossible for him to remain.

The former APC campaign coordinator lamented that, despite months having passed since the ward and local government congresses that produced factional executives in Delta State, the party’s national leadership had failed to reconcile aggrieved members and restore unity.

According to him, “after many months of ward and Local Government Area congresses, which produced factional ward and LGA Excos in Delta State, the National Working Committee has not been able to reconcile these differences and bring unity among party members.”

He further expressed displeasure over the growing influence of former members of the Peoples Democratic Party who recently defected to the APC, alleging that some of them had taken over party structures in the state.

“It is so sad that the PDP members who decamped to APC just some months ago converted their PDP Ward Chairman to factional APC ward Chairman in our ward,” he stated.

Ominimini also accused some defectors of mocking loyal APC members during the 2023 general elections, despite their efforts in working for the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates.

“These people who were mocking at us as we were working hard to produce President Tinubu… have come to the very centre stage of the APC in Delta State,” he alleged.

The APC stalwart claimed that despite his contributions to the growth and electoral success of the party in Delta Central Senatorial District, he was suspended after raising concerns over alleged anti-party activities.

Highlighting his roles during the 2023 elections, Ominimini said he served as Delta Central APC Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Coordinator and coordinated campaign structures across the eight local government areas in the senatorial district.

He noted that he inaugurated campaign councils at the LGA, ward and unit levels, constituted membership drive committees and personally hosted several party activities and defectors at his residences in Ughelli and Agbarha-Otor.

“My Ughelli compound and my country home, Agbarha-Otor became busier than the State Secretariat of the party as I threw them open in receiving decampees and hosting meetings and activities of the party,” he wrote.

Ominimini also stated that he served as collation agent for various elections during the 2023 polls and later became a key witness for APC candidates at election petition tribunals.

“In fact, my outstanding performances gave them victories at the tribunal,” he claimed.

The former APC chieftain questioned the authenticity of party executives at the ward and local government levels, alleging that the party had yet to implement an alleged directive by President Tinubu on sharing party structures between old and new members.

He also raised concerns over the possibility of free and fair primaries in the state, accusing the leadership of already promoting consensus candidates ahead of party primaries.

“Will the Governor, who is the leader of the party, allow for a free and fair primary, more so as they have published the list of consensus candidates?” he queried.

Ominimini said his decision to leave the party followed what he described as “divine advice,” adding that he could not jeopardise the political future of his supporters and associates.

“I hereby resign as a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, with immediate effect because the destinies of thousands of many political associates and followers are tied to my political success and I can not afford to throw them to the dustbin,” he declared.

His resignation may further deepen the internal crisis rocking the APC in Delta State ahead of future political contests.
