Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has paid glowing tributes to two of the state’s most distinguished sons, former Governor Chief James Onanefe Ibori and former Minister of Information, Professor Sam Oyovbaire, as they marked their 68th and 85th birthdays respectively, describing them as exceptional leaders whose enduring legacies continue to shape Delta State and Nigeria.
In separate congratulatory messages on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori lauded the duo for their remarkable contributions to governance, public service, scholarship and nation-building, saying their lives remain shining examples of visionary leadership, patriotism and selfless service.
Congratulating Chief James Ibori on his 68th birthday, the governor described the former Delta State governor as a dynamic and inspirational leader whose administration between 1999 and 2007 laid critical foundations for the state’s growth and development.
According to Oborevwori, Ibori’s vision, resilience and commitment to public service inspired countless people and continue to influence Delta State’s developmental trajectory.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I congratulate our dynamic and inspirational leader, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, former Governor of Delta State, on his 68th birth anniversary,” the governor said.
He prayed for God’s continued blessings, good health and long life for the former governor, wishing him a joyful celebration filled with pleasant memories.
Governor Oborevwori also celebrated Professor Sam Oyovbaire on his 85th birthday, describing the renowned political scientist, accomplished academic and elder statesman as one of Delta State’s most respected sons whose outstanding service has earned him national acclaim.
The governor commended Oyovbaire’s steadfast commitment to peace, democracy and good governance, noting that his leadership as Chairman of the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council has continued to strengthen unity, dialogue and stability across the state.
Oborevwori further recalled Oyovbaire’s service as Minister of Information during the administration of former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, where he played a significant role in shaping government communication and public policy.
He observed that the professor’s vast intellectual contributions to political science, governance and public administration have remained invaluable to successive administrations and continue to inspire scholars, public servants and emerging leaders across the country.
“Professor Sam Oyovbaire is an exceptional scholar, accomplished administrator, respected statesman and leader whose life has been dedicated to the service of humanity,” Oborevwori stated.
The governor added: “On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I warmly congratulate Professor Sam Oyovbaire, a father-figure, lifter of men and great Nigerian patriot, on this remarkable milestone. It is my prayer that this new year will bring you as much joy, love and hope as you spread to others with your reassuring attitude.”
