Omo-Agege’s Flyover Criticism Makes Him Unfit to Represent Delta Central — Ntekume

Chairman of Global Initiative Support Group for Sheriff 2027, Chief Josiah Ntekume, has urged the people of Delta Central Senatorial District to reject former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, at the 2027 polls over his recent condemnation of the Otovwodo and Uvwie flyovers.

Ntekume said the condemnation of the flyovers is a clear demonstration that Omo-Agege neither appreciates nor identifies with the developmental aspirations of the people he seeks to represent at the Senate.

Responding to a statement issued by Omo-Agege’s media team, he said it was ironic and disappointing that a politician aspiring to return as the representative of Delta Central would publicly disparage most significant and necessary infrastructure projects ever undertaken in the district.

According to Ntekume, the Otovwodo and Uvwie flyovers were conceived and executed to permanently address decades-long traffic congestion, improve road safety, boost economic activities, and modernise the twin cities of Effurun and Ughelli for the benefit of residents, investors and other road users alike.

He noted that while Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration has continued to spread development across all parts of Delta State through roads, bridges, schools, hospitals and other critical infrastructure under the MORE Agenda, Omo-Agege has chosen to play politics with projects that have brought tangible relief to thousands of residents, commuters and businesses in Delta Central.

“It is astonishing that Senator Omo-Agege wants the votes of the people of Delta Central while at the same time ridiculing some of the biggest and very important infrastructure projects located in their homeland. By condemning the Otovwodo and Uvwie flyovers, he has shown utter disregard for the progress and aspirations of the very people whose mandate he desperately seeks,” Ntekume said.

He stressed that President Bola Tinubu’s recent remarks on infrastructure priorities had been deliberately twisted by Omo-Agege’s camp to score cheap political points, insisting that the President never singled out Delta State or condemned any of the flyover projects executed by the Oborevwori administration.

Ntekume recalled that the Federal Government had, on several occasions, commended Delta State for its massive investments in road infrastructure and urban renewal, including the flyovers, adding that the Otovwodo and Uvwie flyovers remain strategic and necessary projects that have eased transportation, reduced travel time and enhanced commercial activities within the state.

He described the opposition’s attempt to portray the projects as wasteful as unfortunate and disconnected from the daily realities of motorists, traders and residents who now enjoy smoother movement through previously notorious traffic bottlenecks.

Speaking further, he dismissed allegations that the state government had neglected healthcare, education, security and social welfare, maintaining that the Oborevwori administration had simultaneously invested heavily in hospitals, schools, agricultural programmes, youth empowerment, security support and other people-oriented initiatives while executing major infrastructure projects.

Ntekume said the governor’s record speaks for itself and cannot be erased by what he described as “politically motivated distortions and propaganda.”

He therefore called on the people of Delta Central to critically assess Omo-Agege’s comments and reject what he termed an attempt to sacrifice the district’s development on the altar of partisan politics.

“If Senator Omo-Agege truly believes that the Otovwodo and Uvwie flyovers are misplaced priorities, then he has no moral justification to seek the mandate of the same people who are daily beneficiaries of those projects. Delta Central deserves a representative who celebrates and attracts development, not one who condemns it for political convenience”, he said.

Ntekume said: “The people of Delta Central must remember this position when they head to the polls in 2027. Those who denigrate the district’s landmark achievements cannot genuinely claim to want to represent its interests”.
