The Nigerian military says sustained operations across the country’s security theatres have resulted in the rescue of 363 kidnapped victims and the neutralisation of 69 terrorists within one week.

The Defence Headquarters also reported the arrest of 49 suspected criminals during the operations, which covered counter-terrorism, anti-kidnapping and other security activities.

The military said troops further disrupted illegal oil activities, with operations leading to the discovery and dismantling of three illegal refinery sites and the recovery of 251,600 litres of stolen crude oil.

The latest operational figures were disclosed as the armed forces continued coordinated operations against terrorists, kidnappers and other criminal groups operating in different parts of the country.

The development comes against the backdrop of heightened public concern over kidnapping and insecurity, particularly in parts of northern Nigeria where communities and motorists have continued to face threats from armed criminal groups.

The Defence Headquarters said troops had also responded to specific incidents involving attempts to abduct civilians, while other operations targeted criminal hideouts and illegal oil activities.

Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, commended troops for their commitment to the ongoing operations and stressed the importance of cooperation among the armed forces, other security agencies and local communities.
