Former Delta State Commissioner and political chieftain, Olorogun Fred Okiemute Majemite, was among notable personalities who joined Senator Chief (Dr.) Ighoyota Amori on Saturday to celebrate his 74th birthday at a memorable gathering in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The gathering, held at Amori’s residence opposite Liberty Estate on High Court Road, brought together friends, political associates and other prominent personalities to mark the birthday of one of Delta State’s enduring political figures.

Among those in attendance were Hon. Halims Agoda and Hon. Ben Igbakpa, both former members of the House of Representatives for Ethiope Federal Constituency; Dr. Chris Oghenechovwe of Ughelli South Local Government Area; and Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, the incumbent member of the 10th National Assembly representing Ethiope Federal Constituency.

Majemite’s presence added significance to the occasion, given his own extensive involvement in Delta State’s political history and his long-standing relationship with Amori.

A lawyer, businessman and politician, Majemite is a two-time former commissioner in Delta State.

He served as Commissioner for Lands, Surveys and Urban Development and also held the position of Political Adviser to former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.

Speaking at the gathering, Majemite described the occasion as an opportunity to honour not merely a politician, but a man whose influence has extended across generations and political boundaries.

“Today is a special day for all of us who have had the privilege of knowing and working with Senator Chief Ighoyota Amori. At 74, we are celebrating not just his age, but the remarkable journey of a man who has devoted a substantial part of his life to politics, public service and the development of people,” Majemite said.

Reflecting on Amori’s contribution to Delta politics, Majemite noted that the celebrant’s influence could not be measured solely by the political offices he had occupied.

“Chief Amori has remained an important figure in the political development of Delta State because he understands the value of relationships. He has interacted with people across generations and social classes, and he has continued to make himself available to those who seek his counsel and support,” the former commissioner stated.

Majemite also pointed to Amori’s resilience and consistency as qualities that have enabled him to remain relevant through changing political seasons.

“Politics is a field where circumstances change very quickly, but Amori has demonstrated remarkable staying power. His experience, his understanding of people and his capacity to navigate difficult moments have made him a valuable voice in Delta’s political journey,” he added.

On Amori’s accessibility and relationship with people, Majemite said the quality had distinguished the birthday celebrant from many public figures.

“One of the things I particularly admire about him is his accessibility. He has never allowed political position or status to completely separate him from ordinary people. That is a quality that should be appreciated and preserved, especially by younger leaders,” Majemite said.

He said the gathering in Asaba was a fitting occasion for friends and associates to celebrate Amori’s contributions while wishing him many more years of good health and fulfilment.

Majemite used the occasion to offer prayers for Amori’s continued good health, strength and longevity.

“As he marks 74 today, my prayer is that God will grant Chief Amori many more years in good health and strength. May he continue to share his experience with those coming behind him and remain a source of wisdom and guidance to Delta State and beyond,” Majemite prayed.

Majemite’s participation in the celebration underscored the enduring relationships among members of the generation of political leaders who have played significant roles in Delta State’s political development since the return to democratic rule in 1999.

For Amori, the gathering was one of the highlights of his 74th birthday, as political associates, friends and well-wishers across Delta State and beyond joined him in marking the milestone.

The Saturday gathering also offered a more personal dimension to the celebration, bringing together familiar faces from different chapters of Amori’s political journey in an atmosphere of friendship, reflection and goodwill.
