A passenger has been found dead in a plane toilet during a flight from Tenerife to Manchester, according to a report.

During the journey on Tuesday, fellow travellers on the Jet2 plane noticed the cubicle had been locked for some time, prompting them to alert staff, The Mirror reported.

Upon opening the door, the crew made the shocking discovery that the man had died, and the plane instead landed at Cork airport in Ireland.

‘Flight LS918 from Tenerife to Manchester diverted to Cork Airport on Tuesday 2nd January, due to a customer requiring medical attention,’ a spokesperson for the airline told the Mirror.

‘Regrettably, we can confirm that the customer sadly passed away. Our thoughts are with the customer’s family and friends at this very difficult time.’

One passenger onboard told the newspaper that their husband noticed the toilet door had been locked for some time ‘and he said that he thought he was dead. Tragically he was right.’

The passenger said the crew were initially dismissive towards their husband before they eventually checked the cubicle. They believe the person was travelling alone.

They added that the plane was due to land in Manchester at 8.30pm on Tuesday, but that passengers had to wait for another plane in Cork, eventually arriving at 1.30am.

Tuesday’s incident comes ten months after another passenger died on a Jet2 flight travelling from Turkey to Glasgow, forcing the aircraft into an emergency landing.

The 44-year-old man died on the Jet2 flight on its way to the Scottish city from Turkish resort city Antalya on March 7, 2023.

Cabin crew acted quickly to perform CPR on the man while the plane was still in mid-air. They spent 40 minutes giving the man chest compressions to try and resuscitate him, but staff were unable to prevent his death.

One of the passengers on the plane told the Daily Record at the time: ‘We were around 40 minutes away from landing and the next minute, all the cabin crew started running toward the seats behind me. A man had been pulled onto the aisle and they were trying to give him mouth-to-mouth.

‘The pilot came on to inform us we were going to have to do an emergency landing due to a medical incident on board. We had to land with all our cabin lights on and it was quite scary because you know that is quite dangerous.

The unnamed passenger said cabin crew were still trying to resuscitate the man during the emergency landing.

Other passengers were crying and shaken up by the death, they said.

‘When we landed, paramedics came on and they were still on the aircraft for about half an hour before people were let off.

‘Everyone on the plane was really upset but the staff at Jet2 were so professional and respectful during the incident,’ the passenger added.
