Urhobo Federated Council backs UROAGAN’s call on President Tinubu to establish mini LNG plants in Urhobo land

The Urhobo Federated Council (UFC) has backed the Urhobo Oil and Gas Nationality (UROAGAN) call for President Bola Tinubu to establish mini LNG plants in Urhobo land.

Recall that UROAGAN recently in a statement urged President Tinubu, the Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), and the Chief Executive of the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) to reconsider the plan to establish five mini LNG plants in Kogi State.

UROAGAN in the statement signed by its National Chairman, Olorogun Dr. Obiuwevbi Ominimini, opined that the Urhobo ethnic nationality has the highest reserve of gas and crude oil in Nigeria but has nothing to show for it.

Lending its voice to the call by UROAGAN, the Urhobo Federated Council in a statement on Friday by its acting President, Oguname Emmanuel and acting Publicity Secretary, Mr Oturhobore Felix Oghenekevwe, described as oppressive and unjust on the Urhobo nation the plan by the Federal Government to establish 5 mini LNG plants in Kogi State leaving Urhobo land, the source of the gas deposit with none.

In the statement, UFC noted, “By natural justice and fairness, we are supposed to be the first partaker of the establishment of any gas plant since we are the ones impacted by the activities of gas exploration on our land.

“How long shall the Federal Government continue to oppress and marginalize the Urhobos despite having the highest reserve of gas and crude oil in Nigeria? Shall we continue to be like the hen that lays the golden egg, but begs to taste from it?

“Urhobo Federated Council (UFC) therefore appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to heed the call by the Dr Ominimini Obiuwevwi-led Urhobo Oil and Gas Nationality (UROAGAN) on the establishment of at least two of the 5 mini gas plants in Urhobo land being the source of the gas deposit.”
