The Ughelli North Local Government Council has inaugurated a Caretaker Committee to oversee the administration and affairs of Otor-Iwhreko Community, with a mandate to promote peace, unity, accountability and sustainable development.
The committee, which was duly appointed and sworn in, is headed by Kingsley Orise as President, with Onoriode Uloho as Vice President and Ufuoma Olotu as Secretary. Other members of the main body are Samson O. Erekamrere, Prince Francis Oharisi, Comrade Ogheneovo Ophori, Mudiaga Orhie and Ohwrode Erhure.
The Youth Wing of the committee is headed by Allen Emariavworhe as Youth Chairman, with Lawrence Okponero as Vice Youth Chairman, Jude Odiete as Treasurer, Christopher Okorodafe as Secretary and Kesiena Eku as a member.
According to the terms of reference issued for the committee, it will serve an initial six-month tenure, commencing from the date of its inauguration and swearing-in, subject to any lawful extension or further directive by the Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council.
The committee is expected to maintain regular liaison with the Local Government Authority on issues relating to the development, administration, security, welfare and general interests of the Otor-Iwhreko Community.
It is also charged with taking responsibility for the day-to-day governance and administration of the community during its tenure, in accordance with applicable laws, customs and legitimate community decisions.
A major responsibility of the committee is the preparation and drafting of an all-embracing constitution for the Otor-Iwhreko Community.
The proposed constitution is expected to establish a clear framework for community administration, leadership, rights and responsibilities, dispute resolution, development and other aspects of community affairs.
The committee is further mandated to commence the necessary processes towards the registration of Otor-Iwhreko Community with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in accordance with applicable laws and requirements.
The terms of reference also emphasise broad consultation and due process, directing the committee to consult relevant stakeholders and community members before taking sensitive or far-reaching decisions. Its actions are expected to be guided by transparency, accountability, peace, unity and the overall interest of the community.
The Caretaker Committee is expected to discharge its responsibilities with diligence, fairness, transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law, while working towards the peace, unity, progress, and sustainable development of the Otor-Iwhreko Community.
