Stay in your domain, Delta govt urges council chairmen

Delta State Government has reminded chairmen of the 25 local government councils in the state of the need for them to ensure peace and stability in their areas.

Special Adviser to the state governor on Local Government Affairs, Prince Kelly Penawou said this during his familiarization visit to the twenty-five councils in the state.

The current twenty-five local government administrations in the state are now one year in office today March 8, 2022.

With one year into their three-year tenure, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa through the Directorate of Local Government Affairs, with Prince Kelly Penawou as Special Adviser, is concerned about what the chairmen of these Councils have been doing for the past one year, their achievements and challenges.

Prince Penawou during his familiarisation visit to the Councils told the chairmen to regularly hold their security meetings through which they are able to keep tap with security issues in their areas and take proactive measures to nip them in the bud.

He urged them to stay put in their domains and be regular to their offices to handle issues before they get out of hand stressing that they are the mouthpiece of the governor at the grassroots level.

Prince Penawou also emphasized the need for the council chairmen to keep their people inundated with the programmes and policies of the state government adding that where necessary they hold town meetings to let the people know what they are doing and what their plans as well as what the governor has been doing for them.

While commending the council chairmen for their performances within available funds in the past one year in office, Prince Penawou further urged them to do more in the area of sanitation.

To this end, he reminded them of the need to revive the old practice whereby Sanitary Inspectors on monthly basis go round communities to galvanise them towards ensuring a clean environment.

Governor Okowa according to him is doing everything possible to assist the councils to continue to meet up with their responsibilities.

The various local government chairmen in their responses pledged to continue to ensure peace and security as well as a clean environment in their areas.

The council chairmen expressed gratitude to Governor Okowa for his continued interventions which have enabled them to meet up with their mandate to the people.
