The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Crude Oil Theft, Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North in the National Assembly, on Tuesday, held a critical meeting with the Nigeria Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa and his team.

The objective of the meeting held at the Defence Headquarters was to address the persistent and devastating challenge of crude oil theft in the country.

In a post shared on X, Senator Nwoko emphasized that crude oil theft is a significant threat to both the national economy and security, underlining the urgent need for a decisive approach to tackle this menace for the benefit of the nation.

The discussion primarily focused on strengthening intelligence-sharing frameworks, improving surveillance operations, and enhancing inter-agency collaboration.

The goal, according to Senator Nwoko is to implement an effective strategy to combat the growing problem within Nigeria’s oil sector.

Senator Nwoko further stated that crude oil theft not only drains billions of Naira from the nation’s economy but also undermines investor confidence and hampers national development.

He noted, “Tackling this issue requires decisive action, and as a committee, we are committed to implementing stronger policies, deploying advanced security measures, and holding those responsible accountable.”

Part of his statement read: “In line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, we are intensifying efforts to secure our natural resources, drive economic stability, and create an environment that fosters growth and development.”

“Protecting our crude oil reserves is not just about safeguarding revenue; it is about ensuring a sustainable future for all Nigerians,” he continued.

The Senator also expressed his appreciation for the dedication of his fellow committee members and acknowledged the efforts of the Chief of Defence Staff and his team in securing the nation’s resources.

“The fight against crude oil theft is a shared responsibility, and together, we will secure a better future,” he noted.
