As part of efforts to rebuild the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State following the mass defection of its leaders and political appointees to the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ward 2 PDP members in Udu Local Government Area, held a strategic meeting to close ranks and reassure members of its steadfastness.

It would be recalled that in the 2023 general elections, Ward 2 PDP stood out as the only Ward won by the PDP in Udu Local Government Area.

The meeting was well attended by PDP members in Owhrode, Erhiephihor, and Owhorokpokpor communities, with the Udu PDP caretaker committee also in attendance.

In the wake of series of high-profile defections that have shaken its leadership and voter confidence, core grassroots members of PDP, in Ward 2, Udu Local Government Area, are mounting concerted effort to rebuild and redefine the party’s identity ahead of the 2027 elections.

Addressing a large gathering of party faithful in Owhrode, the PDP Udu Coordinator, Comrade Johnbull, Kenairu, said PDP still remains a formidable party whose roots sink deep in the nooks and crannies of Udu Local Government Area and Delta State.

Comrade Kenairu said since the formation of PDP in 1998, the party has grown in leaps and bounds, and the active members are those in the grassroots rather than the few political appointees who defected with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to the APC.

The Coordinator PDP Udu, noted that the visit to the Wards in Udu is in line with the directive of the Delta State PDP Caretaker Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Ogidi, and also to reassure party members of their readiness to steer the party forward.

They noted that despite the defection experienced recently, the PDP is poised to reclaim its rightful position in Delta State politics.

The highpoint of the PDP Udu Ward 2 meeting was the welcoming of some new members who defected from the APC.to PDP.
