Ondo govt averts attempt by NLC to chase Odebowale out of office for slapping a pregnant woman

The Ondo state government Monday averted an attempt by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Ondo state chapter to chase Dr Doyin Odebowale, senior special assistant to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu out of office.

The Precision NG reports that the NLC had in a letter written last week Friday to Akeredolu, that it would chase Odebowale out of his office, Monday, May 10, over an alleged assault of a pregnant woman, Adeola Egbedi.

Odebowale had on Thursday last week allegedly slapped Egbedi, an environmental guard officer while she was supervising the weekly sanitation exercise at Oja Oba market in Akure, the state capital.

He had since denied the allegation, adding that it was the handiwork of corrupt elements in the state.

But the NLC insisted that Odebowale should be suspended to pave the way for a probe while threatening to sack him from the office if the Governor failed to suspend him.

Members of the union gathered on Monday morning to mobilise for action against Odebowale, before some state officials prevailed on them to see the reason why the protest should be suspended, in order not to be hijacked by hoodlums.

The deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa was among top government officials who ran down to the NLC office to appeal to them.

He assured them that the government is aware of the development and is being cautious not to issue a statement in haste on the matter, without investigation.

The NLC members were united in their demands that Odebowale is suspended pending the outcome of the investigation.
