The stage is set for another historic milestone in Oyede Kingdom, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State, as Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is expected to officially present the Staff of Office to His Royal Majesty, Sir Engr. Goodnews Goodman Agbi, PhD, Athuaro I, the first Ovie of the kingdom.
According to an official invitation released by the people of Oyede Kingdom, the colourful ceremony will take place on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Catholic Church Field, Oyede, commencing at 9:00 a.m.
The event is expected to attract top government officials, traditional rulers, political leaders, captains of industry and other distinguished guests from within and outside Delta State.
The invitation specifically extends a warm welcome to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and all invited guests for the formal presentation of the Staff of Office to HRM Sir Engr. Goodnews Goodman Agbi, PhD, FNSE, FNICE, FNIStructE, Athuaro I, Ovie of Oyede Kingdom, marking the official state recognition of his ascension to the throne.
The ceremony comes barely months after Agbi made history by emerging as the first Ovie of Oyede Kingdom, ending the centuries-old Odiologbo leadership system and ushering in a new monarchical era following the Delta State Government’s recognition and gazetting of the traditional institution.
His coronation in April was widely celebrated as a defining moment for the kingdom and a major step towards strengthening traditional governance, unity and development in the community.
A renowned engineer, former Delta State governorship candidate, and immediate past Special Adviser to Governor Oborevwori on Project Monitoring, Agbi has pledged to use his reign to foster peace, promote unity among the people, and attract sustainable development to Oyede Kingdom.
Friday’s presentation of the Staff of Office is expected to formally consolidate his authority as the traditional ruler of the kingdom and further reinforce the transition to the newly established Ovieship system, which is designed to rotate among the kingdom’s recognised ruling houses.
