It was a moment of pride and emotion at Immaculate Conception College, Benin City, Edo State, as the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Nkem Nwaeke and his wife, Mrs Mary Nwaeke, were honoured with a special award for their commitment to the growth of the institution.
The Nwaekes were named “Outstanding Parents” for the 2025/2026 Academic Session by the all-boys Catholic school.
The award was presented by the College Principal, Most Rev. Fr. Anthony Ekhaisomi, during the graduation ceremony for the 2025/2026 Academic Session. Their 16-year-old son, Michael Nosike Nkem-Nwaeke, was among the graduating students.
Speaking during the presentation, Fr. Ekhaisomi said the award was in recognition of the couple’s unwavering commitment, support, and contributions towards the growth and success of the College.
The award citation reads in part:
“Congratulations, Mr and Mrs Nkem Nwaeke. In recognition of your unwavering commitment, support, and contributions towards the growth and success of this College, you are honoured as Outstanding Parents for the 2025/2026 Academic Session”.
Commending the family, Fr. Ekhaisomi described the Nwaekes as worthy examples of parental partnership in education.
“The Nwaekes have two sons. The first graduated from this college two years ago, and the last one is among the graduating students today. This couple has always been there anytime they were called upon. Their interest and commitment to academic excellence, moral development, and the growth of the college have been outstanding,” Fr. Ekhaisomi stated.
He added that such dedication by parents plays a critical role in shaping students’ character, academic success, and the overall development of the school community.
Two other couples, Dr Peter and Mrs Cynthia Agbonrofo, and Mr Mike and Mrs MaryJane Omofese, were also honoured for their active parental involvement in the life of the school.
The honours drew applause from parents, staff, and graduating students who witnessed the presentation.
