Kidnappers demand N5m ransom each for 5 remaining abducted female footballers in Edo

The Edo State Police Command says it has rescued thirty-two out of the thirty-seven female footballers abducted on Friday at Oronigbe community in the state.

The kidnappers NewsNet Nigeria learnt have made contact with the family members of the five female footballers still in their custody demanding N5 million naira as a ransom for each of them.

The female footballers were kidnapped around 6pm on Friday at Oronigbe community in Edo state, a boundary between Delta and Edo States, while on their way back from a football competition at Owa-Alero in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.

Confirming the incident in a phone chat with NewsNet Nigeria, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said the yet to be rescued five female footballers were among the thirty-seven who were kidnapped on Friday while in a coastal bus returning after their engagement.

Nwabuzor said, “The current situation is that thirty-two out of thirty-seven of them have been rescued by Oronigbe Police Station, Edo State and serious and aggressive bush combing is on the way to rescue the rest five who are currently with the kidnappers”.

According to the police image-maker, thirty-two of them were rescued unhurt.
