Victims of the inferno that gutted the popular Polokor market in Warri, Delta State in the wee hours of Wednesday have appealed to the Delta State Government to come to their aid to enable them to pick up their pieces and start all over again.

They made the call on Saturday while lamenting over the huge losses they suffered from the fire disaster.

The affected shop owners who were seen gazing helplessly at the wreckage of their wares said the inferno has brought them to zero level with huge debts hanging on their necks and called on corporate bodies and public-spirited individuals to come to their rescue in order to mitigate the effect of the unfortunate incident on them and their families

The affected shop owners who wailed over their losses added that some of them recently collected loans to restock their shops and appealed to the state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, other relevant authorities and public-spirited individuals to come to their aid to enable them to get back to business.

According to them, since their means of livelihood were completely razed by the conflagration, things have been very difficult for them.

“From the day the fire burnt all our goods and other valuables life has never remained the same again. Please, government and all members of the public should come and help us. We are passing through the most difficult times right now with the current situation in our country,” the owners bemoaned.

Fire incidence has become a regular phenomenon in markets Warri and its environs prompting stakeholders to call for the establishment of more fire-fighting stations to help mitigate fire outbreaks whenever they occur.
