Commercial tricycle operators popularly known as Keke riders have been given seven days extension to stop their operations on highways in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

Recall that the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government, Ramson Onoyake had declared Monday, July 11, 2022, for the commencement of enforcement of the ban on Keke operators from plying the expressways in the council area.

However, Onoyake during a meeting with the leadership of the union and security agencies yesterday Monday in Effurrun, said the seven days grace was part of efforts to ensure smooth implementation of the ban noting that the one-week extension will enable proper sensitization by the commercial and motorcycle operators association.

He disclosed that it was also agreed in the meeting that tricycle operators coming from Sapele, Ororokpe and their environs who wish to operate in Uvwie are to resume on or before 6:30 am as no tricycle riding will be allowed from the DSC roundabout down to the NPA Expressway from between 6:30 am and 9:pm.

Also speaking, an executive member of the tricycle union, Okeoghene Miller said the body will work with the government and other relevant agencies to ensure implementation.

For his part, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ebrumede Police Station, Enok Ndiffreke while asking for corporation from the tricycle riders, warned that the police in collaboration with other security agencies are ready to implement the law.
