A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Delta State, Chief Thompson Fuoye, on Saturday officially declared his intention to contest the Burutu Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, pledging transparent leadership and people-focused representation ahead of the 2027 general election.

Fuoye, a former Special Assistant on Community and Rural Development to the immediate past Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, made his declaration during a meeting with the executive and members of the APC in Burutu Local Government Area.

He said his aspiration was driven by a strong determination to attract greater federal presence to the oil-rich constituency.

“My decision to seek this mandate is rooted in a sincere desire to serve and reposition Burutu Federal Constituency for meaningful development,

“Our people deserve quality representation that will prioritise infrastructure, education, healthcare and economic empowerment,” Fuoye stated.

Addressing supporters, stakeholders, community leaders and party faithful, the petroleum economist and philanthropist said leadership should be seen as “a sacred responsibility and a platform to deliver real impact.”

He added that his background as an Ijaw man born in northern Nigeria and educated in the South-West uniquely positions him to build bridges across regions and strengthen federal lobbying efforts for the constituency.

“Burutu South and other riverine communities require a strong and strategic voice at the National Assembly to attract federal attention and development.

“If elected, I will remain accessible, accountable and transparent in representing the interests of our people,” he said.

Fuoye further pledged to serve as a bridge between government and constituents, championing policies that promote unity, peace and sustainable development.

He emphasised plans to create opportunities for youths, empower women and support vulnerable groups through targeted legislative interventions and partnerships.

In their separate remarks, Burutu LGA Chairman of the APC, Comrade Seikemiengha Moni, and Director-General of the ONE-ON-ONE Progressive Grassroot Crusaders Movement, Comrade Caulmah Ebikonbowei David, called on party members and residents to rally behind Fuoye’s aspiration.

Moni said, “Unity and collective support will strengthen the party’s chances in future elections. The leadership of the party in Burutu is committed to providing a level playing ground for all aspirants.”

David added, “Chief Fuoye has the experience and grassroots connection required to provide effective representation and attract meaningful development projects to the constituency.”

Both leaders expressed confidence in Fuoye’s leadership capacity and political experience, urging party faithful to remain committed to building a stronger APC ahead of the 2027 polls.
