The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council on Thursday lifted the ban on media coverage of all Police activities in the state.

The union placed the ban on the Delta State Police Command following the unwarranted attack and brutalization of Vanguard Correspondent, Akpokona Omafuaire.

However, during her maiden Congress which held today Thursday 12th November, 2020, at the Permanent Secretariat of the Union, with over a hundred Journalists in attendance, the ban was lifted through a motion that was unanimously.

The Congress noted that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Hafiz Inuwa did apologise to the victim and the union over the unfortunate incident.

The CP also directed that all the medical bills incurred by Akpokona Omafuaire should be paid, the damaged vehicle repaired and the policemen involved from the Owvian Aladja Police Division be disciplined.

Meanwhile, during the Congress anchored by the newly elected Executive members of the State Working Committee under the leadership of Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, a by-election into the vacant office of the Financial Secretary was conducted.

Former Chairman of Ughelli Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Polycarp Orosevwotu emerged winner through a unanimous vote after he was nominated by Comrade Andy Adaigbe and seconded by Comrade Paul Osuyi.

Equally, two key Committees were inaugurated – Ethics and Disciplinary Committee and Bye-Law Drafting Committee which were Chaired by Comrades Francis Nwabiani of the Pointer and Akpokona Omafuaire of the Vanguard respectively.
