Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Benjamin Elue, who passed away at the age of 85.

In a tribute released on Sunday, Senator Dafinone described the late statesman as a rare example of humility, dignity, and disciplined leadership, noting that his life in public service reflected an uncommon commitment to democratic ideals and institutional stability.

According to the senator, Chief Elue’s tenure as Deputy Governor between 1999 and 2007, when he served alongside former Governor James Ibori, coincided with a formative period in Delta State’s democratic evolution.

He said Elue’s calm disposition, loyalty to collective governance, and respect for due process contributed significantly to executive stability at a time when many young democracies were grappling with internal power struggles.

“Chief Elue understood the burden of public office and carried it with grace, wisdom, and quiet strength,” Dafinone said. “He showed that loyalty in governance is not a liability but a virtue, when anchored on shared vision and mutual respect.”

The senator further described the late deputy governor as a committed democrat who believed strongly in institutions, inclusive leadership, and collaboration over confrontation.

He noted that Elue’s approach to leadership prioritised service over self-interest and progress over personal ambition, setting a standard that remains relevant in today’s political climate.

Extending condolences on behalf of the people of Delta Central Senatorial District, Senator Dafinone sympathised with Chief Elue’s wife, Lady Esther Onyebuchi Elue, his family, the Delta State Government, political associates, and the people of Aniocha North.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the late statesman’s soul and urged current and future leaders to draw inspiration from a life defined by unity, discipline, and principled service to Delta State.
