The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has cleared 46 aspirants and disqualified 36 others following the conclusion of its screening exercise ahead of the party’s 2026 State House of Assembly primary elections.
In a document issued on Tuesday by the Delta State Assembly Screening Committee, the party said a total of 82 aspirants who purchased nomination and expression of interest forms were screened between May 10 and 11 at the APC State Secretariat in Asaba.
The committee, chaired by Dr. Uche Uzochukwu and with Dr. Chiedozie Nwafor as secretary, said the screening was conducted in line with the party’s constitution, guidelines and the Electoral Act.
According to the report, aspirants were disqualified over alleged inducement and attempted bribery of committee members, submission of unsworn affidavits, failure to present voter cards and party membership slips, conflicting dates of birth, irregularities in nominators’ details, inconsistencies in submitted documents and non-compliance with zoning arrangements in some constituencies.
Other reasons cited included failure to resign from political offices as required by the Electoral Act and submission of invalid or multiple affidavits relating to academic certificates.
Among aspirants cleared by the committee were Emomotimi Guwor for Warri South West, Marilyn Dumkelechukwu Okowa-Daramola for Ika North East, Orode Uduaghan for Warri North, Festus Utuama for Ughelli South, and James Augoye for Okpe constituency.
Others cleared include Joseph Okoro for Ughelli North II, Prince Richard Obi for Ndokwa East, Uroye Augustine for Warri South I and Success Dada for Sapele constituency.
However, several notable aspirants were disqualified, including Hero Enitame Ashagba in Sapele, Dr. Vincent Ugbeiaje in Aniocha North, Emeka Nwobi in Aniocha North, Emuoboh Gbagi in Ughelli South and Tekedor Penasine Clement in Warri South West.
The committee noted that all disqualified aspirants retain the right to challenge the outcome before the party’s screening appeal committee.
“The screening committee in the exercise of her powers acted in accordance with APC guidelines, constitution of the party and Electoral Act,” the statement read.
The development is expected to intensify political realignments and consultations across constituencies ahead of the APC primary elections in Delta State.
