Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr Nkem Nwaeke has solicited the support of media practitioners in promoting the activities of the State House of Assembly as well as support for the office of the Speaker in his leadership of the 8th Assembly.

Mr Nwaeke stated this on Monday at a breakfast meeting with Assembly Correspondents and some other Journalists in the state at his residence in Asaba, as part of activities to mark Christmas and end-of-the-year celebrations.

Addressing which included some publishers, Mr Nkem Nwaeke explained that the breakfast meeting became necessary as there was the need to strengthen the existing bond between him and his colleagues in the journalism profession.

He noted that all have worked closely with him to ensure he succeeds in his assignment.

Recalling his appointment as Chief Press Secretary by the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor on 19th December 2023, Mr Nwaeke emphasized that he could not have carried out his duty as CPS without the support from his family members and media practitioners.

He said: “I recall on that faithful day when the house was about to adjourn for the year, when Mr Speaker, Rt Hon. Emomotimi Guwor made the announcement that he has appointed Nkem Nwaeke as his Chief Press Secretary.

“It came as a surprise to many people but I immediately resolved that I would try as much as God permit to carry everyone along especially as most of us have worked very closely over the years. Appointment as CPS can never separate us.

“This breakfast is my little way of appreciating everyone for supporting me since my assumption of office as the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Emomotimi Guwor. I want to assure you that come 2025, we will continue to synergize and work together”.

Mr Nwaeke, who thanked his principal, Rt. Hon. Guwor for approval to host his colleagues, also appreciated him for always recognizing the efforts of the media in the reportage of the Assembly.

The CPS solicited continuous collaboration from journalists in projecting the Speaker and State legislature in a positive light.

He particularly commended the resilience of Correspondents covering the House of Assembly beat saying their tireless efforts have earned them continuous recognition by the Speaker.

“Let me use this opportunity to appreciate my boss, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor for his support and understanding in carrying out assigned duties.

“His constant recognition of the press in giving visibility to the activities of the house is a moral boost and I appreciate that a lot. I want to again solicit for your collaboration as we continue to continue to work as a team” Nwaeke stated.

Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, Delta State Chapter, Comrade Churchill Oyovwe in his remarks expressed gratitude to the Speaker’s CPS, Mr Nkem Nwaeke and his lovely wife, Mrs Mary Nwaeke for finding time to host journalists in a breakfast meeting saying it was a commendable initiative.

Comrade Oyovwe while recounting his years of acquaintance with Mr Nkem Nwaeke from their University days at the Delta State University Abraka, enjoined media practitioners in the State to imbibe the culture of supporting one another regardless of political appointment or affiliation.

“I have known Nkem Nwaeke from our school days at Delta State University Abraka as a hardworking man who knows his onus. He was one of the few that came out with second-class upper, 2.1 in our set. I know him as a man of capacity who will always deliver.

“Let me use this opportunity to appeal to our colleagues to always learn to support one another no matter what because by so doing, we all succeed. If the CPS fails, we as journalists have also failed and if he succeeds we have also succeeded”. Oyovwe said.

In their goodwill messages, some veterans in the Journalism profession including Mr Augustine Ogwuda of the Townhall Online, Ebere Obiakor, AIT, the Chairman NUJ DBS Asaba Chapel, Comrade Pere Botu, DTHA Information Officer, Austine Akanigha, extolled the virtues of the Speaker’s CPS, Mr Nkem Nwaeke for his hardworking over the years and for sustaining a good working relationship with his colleagues across board.

The breakfast meeting was attended by a crossing section of Journalists in the state from broadcast stations, Newspapers and online publishers.
