A coalition of organised labour unions, professionals, artisans, traders and stakeholders across critical sectors of Nigeria’s economy under the umbrella of Working People United (WoPU) has congratulated former Governor of Delta State and Senator representing Delta North, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, on the occasion of his 67th birthday anniversary.

The coalition described the former governor as a seasoned statesman whose years of public service reflected a consistent commitment to inclusive governance, institutional development and the welfare of ordinary citizens.

In a goodwill message on Wednesday, Convener and National Coordinator General of WoPU, Comrade Prince Williams Akporeha, said Okowa’s life and political journey continue to serve as a source of inspiration to workers, professionals, entrepreneurs and young Nigerians aspiring to leadership.

Akporeha noted that from his early days in public administration through his service as local government chairman, commissioner, secretary to the state government, senator and two-term governor of Delta State, Okowa demonstrated a steady dedication to public service and nation-building.

According to him, the former governor’s leadership style was distinguished by dialogue, accessibility and policies aimed at strengthening human capital development and expanding opportunities for citizens.

“On behalf of Working People United, comprising organised labour unions, professionals, artisans, traders and stakeholders across key sectors of Nigeria’s economy, I heartily congratulate Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, CON, on the joyous occasion of his 67th birthday.

“Your decades of service have shown that leadership is ultimately about improving lives, building institutions and creating opportunities for the people. Your commitment to governance and public service has earned you respect across political, professional and social divides,” Akporeha stated.

Akporeha said WoPU recognises the important role Okowa played in advancing development initiatives during his years in office, adding that many workers and families continue to acknowledge the value of policies that promoted education, healthcare, infrastructure development and economic inclusion.

He further stated that beyond political office, Okowa has remained a respected national figure whose wealth of experience continues to enrich conversations on leadership, democracy and national development.

Akporeha added: “As a coalition committed to the welfare of working Nigerians, we celebrate leaders whose actions have positively impacted the lives of citizens. Senator Okowa’s contributions to Delta State and Nigeria remain part of his enduring legacy.

“At 67, we pray that Almighty God grants you continued good health, wisdom, strength and many more years of fruitful service to humanity. May this new chapter bring greater fulfilment and lasting peace.”

The WoPU National Coordinator General urged younger leaders to emulate the virtues of service, humility and dedication to the public good, saying Nigeria’s future depends on leaders who place the interests of the people above personal ambition.

He reaffirmed the coalition’s commitment to promoting policies that advance workers’ welfare, economic growth and national unity while partnering with stakeholders to build a more prosperous Nigeria.
