Security arrangements in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State have entered a new phase following the dissolution of the Ughelli Vigilante Council (UVC) by the Ughelli North Security Committee.
The development, which takes immediate effect, was announced in a public notice signed by the Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Council, Olorogun (Barr.) Jaro Movudu Egbo.
According to the notice, the UVC under the leadership of Mr. Dickson Ezana has been officially dissolved, while an Interim Executive Committee has been constituted to oversee the affairs of the council pending the conduct of fresh elections.
The statement said the interim body has been mandated to manage the affairs of the vigilante organisation and ensure the emergence of a new executive through a credible and transparent electoral process.
“The Ughelli Vigilante Council under the leadership of Mr. Dickson Ezana has been officially dissolved by the Ughelli North Security Committee with immediate effect,” the notice stated.
To steer the affairs of the council during the transition period, retired Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Oyoma Echero was appointed Chairman of the Interim Executive Committee.
Other members of the committee are Mr. Efe Omotor as Vice Chairman, Mr. Benjamin Idoghor, representing Udu, as Treasurer, Chief Ese Omosehwofa, representing the Ughelli Kingdom Palace, as Member, and Comrade Godwin Onovweghware, representing the Ughelli North Local Government Council, as Secretary.
The local government chairman explained that the interim committee would be responsible for providing leadership, maintaining stability within the vigilante structure and preparing the ground for a transparent election process.
Egbo called on residents, stakeholders and vigilante operatives across the local government area to support the newly constituted committee.
“Members of the public, stakeholders, and all vigilante operatives are hereby advised to take note of this development and accord the Interim Executive Committee the necessary cooperation and support to enable it discharge its responsibilities effectively,” he stated.
The reorganisation is expected to strengthen coordination among community-based security operatives and enhance local security efforts across Ughelli North.
